Sacramental Life » Confirmation

Along with Baptism and Holy Eucharist, Confirmation is one of the three sacraments of initiation. In Confirmation, the fullness of the Holy Spirit is received, confirming, what began in Baptism. At St. Celestine Parish we invite students who have participated and completed the eighth level of the parish and school religious education programs to Confirmation Preparation classes in the fall of the student’s freshman year.

If you would like information regarding this sacrament, please contact Julie McGuire, CRE at 708-453-2555 or julie@stcelestineparish.org.

Confirmation Service Project ^ Back To Top

Service Project Information - pdf Document

The Confirmation Service Projects provide you with an opportunity to do what every adult Christian is called to do: give themselves freely in service to others.

General suggestions are listed below. You are not limited to these. You are encouraged to use your imagination and to become aware of the needs of your faith community and the community in which you live.

Work on this immediately, do not wait until the last minute.

Requirements of the project:

  • Three different kinds of direct service to the St. Celestine Parish Community, to the community in which you live or the community in which you attend school.
  • No money or other form of reward may be accepted for your service.
  • At least 3 different projects must be undertaken to reach the service project requirements. One of your projects must be done with your sponsor.
  • The certification form must be filled out completely and signed by the adult who supervised the project.
  • One of the projects will be Feed My Starving Children or a soup kitchen which we will go to together. There will be several offerings throughout the year.

Possible project options:

  • A variety of parish social functions are held throughout the year. Service hours can be performed in a variety of areas. Join the Teen Group. They provide a variety of service projects.
  • A variety of clean-up projects take place throughout the year in our parish and community. Your confirmation facilitator will sometimes alert you to a specific service project, pay attention, they are here to help you.
  • Grass cutting, yard work, housework, or preparing meals for the elderly who are not related to you.
  • Check with your small group adult facilitator or Julie McGuire before you undertake a project to avoid the possibility of the project being disallowed.

Babysitting or working in someone’s business is not allowed as part of the service project. You cannot be paid for your work.

Sponsor Involvement:

  • You are expected to meet with your sponsor on a regular basis over the next year. A minimum of three meetings is required. We are asking your sponsor to participate in at least one of your service projects. Your sponsor can help you by discussing all aspects of your Preparation for Confirmation.
